The conference will provide a platform to discuss how Europe can accelerate the transition towards circular plastics while strengthening its industrial competitiveness and ensuring that circular solutions can scale effectively.

From policy ambition to industrial reality
With 2030 approaching, the European plastics industry faces an important question: how can ambitious circularity targets be translated into a competitive and resilient circular plastics industry in Europe?
Chemical recycling has an important role to play in this transition, complementing existing recycling solutions and helping address plastic waste streams that are difficult to recycle through conventional technologies.
The first session of the conference, moderated by Beatriz Santos, Editor at Sustainable Plastics, will explore chemical recycling as a key pillar of European resilience and its evolving regulatory framework.
The discussion will bring together perspectives from policy and industry, with contributions from Dr. Wolfgang Trunk of the European Commission, Ben Dixon of Systemiq, Ing. Carolina Gregorio Rocha of Dow, and an invited contribution from Dr. Andrea Neumann of LyondellBasell.
Together, speakers will examine the conditions needed to enable chemical recycling to contribute effectively to Europe’s circular economy ambitions and the regulatory landscape shaping its development.

Building demand for circular materials
Creating a circular plastics economy does not end with recycling. Circular materials also need strong and sustained demand across European value chains.
The conference’s second session will turn the conversation towards the market, exploring the growing demand for circular materials across value chains.
The session will feature perspectives from Egor Dementev of Independent Commodity Intelligence Services (ICIS), Nestor García Morales of Mondelez, Thor Tummers of Unilever and Arne Ringkowski of ALDI, followed by a Q&A session.
By bringing together actors from different parts of the value chain, the discussion will explore what businesses need from circular materials, how demand is evolving and what is required to build stronger markets for circular plastics in Europe.

Bringing the plastics value chain together
Achieving Europe’s 2030 ambitions will require more than technological innovation. It will depend on coherent regulation, investment, market demand and collaboration between policymakers, recyclers, producers, converters, brands, retailers and other actors across the plastics ecosystem.
Getting Ready for 2030 Targets: Powering Circular Plastics Made in Europe will create a space for these perspectives to meet and for the industry to discuss the practical steps needed to move from ambition to implementation.
The programme begins with a networking dinner on 29 September at 18:30, followed by the main conference programme on 30 September 2026. Registration and welcome coffee will begin at 08:30, with the conference opening at 09:00 with a welcome note from CRE President Valentijn de Neve.
The morning programme will conclude with a networking lunch at 12:30, with further details on the afternoon programme to be announced soon.
