Chemical Recycling Europe Supports the Circular Plastics Made in Europe Initiative

Chemical Recycling Europe (CRE) supports the Circular Plastics Made in Europe campaign, an industry initiative advocating for a stronger and more resilient circular plastics value chain across Europe (EU27+EFTA+UK).

The campaign, supported by organisations including Chemical Recycling Europe, Plastics Recyclers Europe, and Zero Waste Europe, calls for prioritising European waste streams and strengthening recycling capacity to ensure that plastics collected in Europe are recycled and reintegrated into European value chains.

For CRE, achieving Europe’s circular economy objectives requires a complementary approach that combines mechanical and chemical recycling technologies. While mechanical recycling remains essential, chemical recycling can process complex plastic waste streams that are difficult to recycle mechanically, such as mixed or contaminated plastics and multilayer materials.

By converting plastic waste into feedstocks for new materials and chemicals, chemical recycling helps keep valuable resources in the European economy while supporting recycled content targets established under EU legislation, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and the Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD).

Chemical Recycling Europe encourages stakeholders across the plastics value chain, policymakers, and industry partners to support the Circular Plastics Made in Europe initiative.

Join the campaign

Stakeholders across the plastics value chain are invited to sign the petition and support the development of a stronger circular plastics ecosystem in Europe.
